What were some punishments and how long did they last?

Punishment would usually be for as little as a day. However, it could last for days depending on the punishment. The amount of time in the pillories would be determined by the lord of the manor.  Pillories are a popular known way to punish people. It would hold the person by the head and the hands leaving them standing bent over. Injuring or removing body parts was disturbingly popular. Heads and limbs were cut off. If someone stole something they would be beaten. Some would have the right hand cut off, be burned alive, or even be stretched on a rack. Criminals would also be suffocated.
