In the Middle Ages, it seemed that woman had much harsher punishments. One example is that if a woman commited adultery they would be drowned. Some woman were thought to be "witches" who had powers and worshipped Satan, the devil himself. Many methods such as the ducking stool that tested if a woman was in fact a witch, resulting in the deaths of many. Of course, turns out there weren't any withces all along.
Men usually have lesser punishments in various crimes. Also, a man was to beat there wive for punishment. A man would only get punished if the wive was drunk. Of course, punishment is intensely harse for both genders. Yet woman had a harder time, similar to other ancient times.
